DiCaprio here in August
Leonardo DiCaprio is coming for a visit early next month. This piece of good news was confirmed by DiCaprio himself through his Hollywood agents and publicists.
According to earlier reports, DiCaprio was arriving in early 2011.
“It turned out that he’s arriving earlier than expected,” said Joyce Ramirez, director for International Publicity at PR Asis Worldwide, who invited DiCaprio not to promote his new movie, Inception, but to spearhead an environmental-awareness project in cooperation with a huge conglomerate in Albay. “DiCaprio will be here for one week. He has chosen to stay at the Misibis Bay, an ultra-luxurious resort. It’s not yet sure if he will make a stopover in Manila or fly straight to Legazpi City on a private jet.”
It’s Joyce’s brainchild to bring DiCaprio to the Philippines to help boost our tourism industry especially in Albay, with Legazpi City as a world-class eco-tourism destination.
It’s not DiCaprio’s first trip to Asia. After starring in the all-time hit Titanic, DiCaprio went to Thailand to shoot The Beach, his follow-up starrer. The STAR did an exclusive interview with DiCaprio in L.A. for that movie in late 1999.
In Inception, a sci-fi action adventure distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures in IMAX, Digital 2D and regular format, DiCaprio plays Dom Cobb, a skilled thief who is an expert in the dangerous art of extraction, stealing valuable secrets from deep within the subconscious during the dream state when the mind is at its most vulnerable. Cobb’s rare ability has made him a coveted player in the treacherous new game of corporate espionage, but it has also made him an international fugitive and cost him everything he has ever loved.
Inception is showing nationwide soon.

Hollywood actor Leonardo DiCaprio to visit Philippines in 2011?
Leonardo DiCaprio in the Philippines!
This is according to publicist Joyce Ramirez, also the lead PR of the project who's in talks on the possibility of bringing the Hollywood A-list actor to the country early next year.
The Titanic star is presently promoting his latest Hollywood movie Inception, written and directed by Christopher Nolan. Opening this July 16, the sci-fi thriller also stars Ken Watanabe, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Oscar winner Marion Cottilard.
He plans to visit "an island" sometime between January to March 2011 for an environmental awareness project in partnership with a private sector.
Leo is an active advocate of expanding global awareness of environmental issues using his global popularity as an actor to reach out to the international audience in promoting environmental campaigns such as the "worldwide movement to eliminate the use of plastic bags."

DiCaprio to perk up Albay environmental campaigns
LEGAZPI CITY, Philippines – The provincial government of Albay is preparing for the arrival of Hollywood actor Leonardo DiCaprio, who will launch environmental promotion and protection activities in the province next month.
DiCaprio, known for his role in the blockbuster movie Titanic as well as other successful movies, will be here for a week-long visit.
Albay Governor Joey Salceda has instructed Albay tourism officials to line up activities that would tap the skills of DiCaprio, particularly in adventure tourism.
Joyce Ramirez, the director for international publicity at PR Asia Worldwide, confirmed that DiCaprio would arrive in Albay on board a private jet in the first week of August.
"We are excited that he wants to promote environmental protection in Albay. So we are preparing environmental options for his one-week stay here," Salceda told the Philippine Daily Inquirer on Saturday.
DiCaprio is expected to visit Albay's tourist destinations, particularly the 4,642-meter-high Mayon Volcano and the white-sand beaches of Misibis resort in Bacacay that would give the province an opportunity to be placed on the world tourism map, he said.
Jose Briones, Albay tourism officer, said his office has prepared tourism adventure activities for DiCaprio in the areas along the Albay Gulf, which offers potentials for jet skiing, seaboarding, or scuba-diving.
Briones said the islands of Cagraray, Rapu-rapu, Buhatan, and San Miguel off Tabaco City have already made preparations for adventure tourism activities for local and foreign tourists.
"These islands are at par with other places elsewhere in the world as far as potentials for adventure tourism due to its white sand, caves, corals and scenic seabeds," Briones said.
Salceda said having a Hollywood role model for environmental protection as well as disaster preparedness efforts would double the effectiveness of the province to deal with the ill effects of calamities.
Albay is visited by 15-20 typhoons every year.
The provincial government has put in place zero-casualty measures against the hazards of lahar flash floods, landslides and flooding.

Leonardo DiCaprio to Visit Albay
Bikol Green Group Asks DiCaprio to Visit Eco-critical Albay Areas
The PANGATAMAN-Bikol (Bicol Center for Environmental Protection) welcomed the planned visit of international actor Leonardo DiCaprio to Albay to launch environmental promotion and protection activities in the province.
According to Professor Joel Batanes, president of the Board of Trustees of PANGATAMAN-Bikol, "while it is welcome that an international environmental advocate will be coming here to boost our advocacy, it would be best if DiCaprio prioritize visiting eco-critical areas in the province rather than be more of a tourist."
Batanes said that the international celebrity should visit areas like Rapu-rapu Island and see the creeks that have been contaminated by mine tailings, Palanog in Camalig where a cement factory destroyed the local habitat, and Tiwi, where "a dubious solid waste injection project is being done."
"We are not asking him to forgo the tourist spots of Albay but he should see the real situation of the environment in the province first, without the packaged tour. He should interview the people and the victims firsthand so that he can effectively convey their message and suffering," said Batanes.
The green group added that DiCaprio's handlers ought to allow the actor to dialogue with local environmental groups and non-government organizations (NGOs) to be informed first-hand of the different initiatives for the environment being done in Albay and the whole region.
"We hope that DiCaprio's visit here will be very fruitful and serve to internationally highlight the environmental damage being done to the province by big foreign companies. We hope that this will also entail other nationalities to help in our struggle to combat climate change," ended Batanes.

Asia PR Director Peeved Over DiCaprio Visit Rumors
When word got out that Leonardo DiCaprio might be visiting the Philippines a part of an environmental tour of the country, everyone wanted a piece of the action. Itinerary suggestions started popping up, local blogs lit up, and everyone speculated as to where he might go and what he should do.
Consequently, this did not sit well with the woman attempting to make it all happen.
“We are calling all other news agencies to please stop making false reports, as well as interviewing personalities who are not in any way involved in this project,” wrote Joyce Ramirez, Director for International Publicity of PR Asia Worldwide. “We would like to ask them to please refrain from further publishing, blogging, and announcing the coming of actor Mr. DiCaprio, and from using the name, likeness, images, and so forth pertaining to the actor until we reach an agreement and all has been approved by both our firm and artist.”
“We are afraid that if these people will not stop making their own little announcements and creating their own itinerary suggestions without informing us, all discussions to bring him here will be called off due to security reasons,” she added. “Right now, all news are false reports unless the statement come directly from me. Everything is all gossip and hearsay if they do not get an official statement from me.”
So there.
All of this puts the governor of Albay province in an interesting pickle. In a news conference yesterday, he confirmed that the 35-year-old actor was scheduled to visit and would be staying the first week of August. “We are excited that what he wants to do in Albay is to promote environmental protection. So we are preparing environmental options for his one-week stay here,” Salceda told the media.
“He will be treated like an ordinary tourist,” he added.
Hahaha, bullshit! The next time I visit the Philippines, I expect a news conference in advance heralding my arrival too. And honestly, Leo should just go since all of these false announcements and random suggestions mean that nobody will really have a clue as to where the hell he is anyways.

Henceforth, there’ll be a news blackout on the forthcoming visit of Leonardo DiCaprio not to promote his movie Inception (currently showing nationwide) but for his pro-environment advocacy.
DiCaprio’s US reps have instructed the publicist and project director of the project to keep all things under wraps and keep details of his visit confidential. This is “so the actor will not be disturbed during his holiday at an ultra-luxurious island resort” (in Albay) by a possible media circus.
According to the publicist, DiCaprio’s trip, originally set for next month, has been moved by a few months because his reps were alarmed by the recent typhoon (Basyang) that hit Luzon.More tidbits courtesy of the publicist:
• The actor is interested to purchase his own personal estate at the island (complete with his own beach and villa) so he can do a private visit often away from the prying eyes of the paparazzi that hounds him in other commercial vacation spots.
• The project director is now working with the tycoon-owner of the island in developing a cluster of villas that will be owned exclusively by Hollywood celebrities as well as launching the actor’s environmental foundation when he arrives.
• CLARK FREEPORT, Pampanga — Allan Pineda, a.k.a. apl.de.ap of Black Eyed Peas, showed up at a mall here a few days ago to buy watches and groceries for his family.

The truth about Leo and his reported RP visit
LOS ANGELES – We recently asked Leonardo DiCaprio’s publicist about the star’s reported trip to the Philippines. The press agent said he didn’t “have any comment at this time,” but added, “I’ll definitely reach out when we do.”
Sources close to Leonardo’s camp told us privately that they were surprised – and concerned – about the various print stories coming out about the actor’s visit to Manila. However, they did confirm that Leonardo, whose team-up with director Christopher Nolan, “Inception,” is shaping up to be both a commercial and critical hit, was coming to the Philippines.
When we interviewed Leonardo (before the trip was announced in Philippine media), he talked about his passion for traveling, wildlife preservation and nature conservation—factors that may explain why he is considering the Philippines as one of his next destinations.
Wildlife projects
“I love traveling,” said Leonardo, one of the few actors who evoke old Hollywood glamour. “I recently went to Nepal and Bhutan to do this great program with the World Wildlife Fund to save the last remaining tigers. They’re doing a big launch for that. I got to go to the Galapagos a month before that trip. When I am not working, that’s what I do. I love seeing these destinations that I dreamed about seeing ever since I was a little boy, especially places known for wildlife and things like that. I love scuba diving and seeing nature.”
When we pressed Leonardo to elaborate on the “Save the Tigers Now” project, he smiled and quipped, “How much do you want to know? I could go on. I could bore the hell out of you.” But he obliged.
“There are only 3,200 remaining wild tigers in the world,” he began. “The objective is a very interesting one because there’s a lot of species on the brink of extinction. But this is a very compelling one because the tiger is a nearly mythical creature that everyone knows and can immediately identify with. The tigers are being poached and used for medicinal purposes all over Asia. If you put a lot of attention on this animal, like they did with the panda, you can then save their entire habitat and the animals that they hunt and the other animals that live in those jungles.”
He continued: “So in a sense, it’s not just a ‘save the tiger’ campaign—it’s a ‘save the jungles’ campaign. The Indonesian rain forests and jungles throughout all of Asia are being decimated, cut down and not protected. The animals are being poached so the idea is to take this one species, bring a lot of funding behind it, get the local communities involved to protect the animal, get more anti-poachers in place and you can save their habitat.”
How long did it take him to fly to the Himalayas (where he spent a week and a half)? Leonardo jokingly complained, “It took 30 hours to get there, all on commercial airlines—dammit!”
Horrific disaster
Asked what idea he would plant, and in whose mind, if he had the skills of his character in “Inception.” Leonardo answered: “The CEO of British Petroleum, to pay back the Gulf Coast for all the damage they’ve done to the environment. That’s what I would implant. The oil spill is just a horrific disaster. It’s so depressing and unbelievable. It’s so irresponsible.”
The environmental activist proudly said: “A lot of this movie (‘Inception’) was made with solar power. It’s the first movie I got to do with solar power. I had a conversation about it with Alan Horn, who’s the head of Warner Bros. The generators that we had on the set were all powered by solar energy. It’s going to be a big conversion to do stuff like that every day, not just in making movies but everything in the world. We do a lot of things in the world that are wasteful. We keep talking about this all the time. Hopefully, fingers crossed, with these small steps, we’ll make that transition on a much larger scale in the future.”
